ESL Information:
People of all faiths from all over the globe come here to FFBC to learn English. At its core, the learning environment consists of Christian based fellowship. It is a key element of your success. We have found the best way to increase your skill with English is to use it. Our break time (15 minutes) consists of snacks, conversations and dialogs with other students and teachers in English!
Notes: Not all levels are offered each semester. Student participation and teacher availability dictate our ability to teach ALL levels.
Please refer to the Semester Calendar link above or contact our church office for more information (770-461-8378)
Child Care Options - childcare is only available during the morning classes.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:
FFBC ESL currently conducts three levels of "Conversational English" in an environment of Christian fellowship. Our goal is to demonstrate the love of Christ, to serve, to challenge, and encourage you to communicate effectively within the normal day-to-day activities of family, business and community life here in the United States of America.
New students must complete an English Competency Evaluation before being placed in a specific level.
Each semester, students are re-evaluated and assigned a class suited for their skill level:
Basic - Designates Beginner levels in all Levels 1, 2 and 3
Level 1B's major purpose is to get the student at ease with the phonic nature of the language and teach the basic use of the language as it relates to conversation. Some 55 or so sounds are practiced and drilled until the student can articulate basic expression: Name, Phone Number, Address, Safety related expressions and concerns, Numbers, Calendar Dates, Holidays, Money, etc.
Intermediate - This level is identified as 2B (Basic) or 2A (Advanced). Some English fluency is expected in order to perform well in this class. Students are challenged with more detailed usage of conversational English. Some understanding of basic English grammar and sentence structure is required in order to do well in this class environment.
Advanced - These levels are identified as 1A, 2A or 3A (Advanced) when offered during any semester. Each Level may have students of varying degrees of competency with the language.
The Fayetteville First Baptist Church English program's emphasis is on "Conversational English." As such, our classes instruct basic grammar only to the degree that students can grasp basic conversational concepts. By doing so, each student is provided an opportunity to advance to higher skill levels in the conversational and literacy aspects of the language.
All of our FFBC ESL teachers are certified by Georgia Baptist Literacy Missions.
